A Tool To Save Your Mobile Nuggets
I find I am spending an increasing amount of my time browsing the web via my mobile in search of interesting articles about social media, digital technology and how they can help financial advisers. I have a powerful HTC Desire Smartphone with a comparatively large 3.7 inch screen and high resolution WVGA display. Even so I often find it hard to work through the articles on the mobile, especially if there is a lot of text or intricate images. I therefore usually save such pieces for reading when I return to my PC. I used to do this by emailing the article to myself but this was always a bit fiddly and often led to the article getting lost amongst my normal daily email deluge.
To solve this problem I have recently started using a nifty free service called ‘Instapaper’. This allows you to click on the link in your mobile browser and save it to your Instapaper account in a single action. When you get back to your PC you simply login to Instapaper and there’s the link waiting for you. You can then read the article and delete it, or save the link to folders which you create. This means that over time you can use the service to build your own library of useful articles, which you can also use to generate an RSS feed or export to other services. Of course you can link to articles via your PC browser as well, while a number of mobile apps (e.g. Mashable, Engaget etc) already integrate with the service.
